Funny how people get patriotic about a turk on St Georges Day and a Welshman on St Patricks Days.......Oh and St George being a Turk may have been a Pork dodger......ever thought about that ??

As I've always said if you want to celebrate being English then celebrating an English person would be a start!
And by celebrating i don't mean go to the pub!
Newton, Brunel, Churchill or even Florence Nightingale.

In fairness you can say the same thing about the Irish who make a far bigger thing about it. As already been pointed out he wasn't even Irish & taken from Britain as a slave to Ireland.

This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle, This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, This other Eden, demi-paradise, This fortress built by Nature for herself Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in the silver sea, Which serves it in the office of a wall, Or as a moat defensive to a house, Against the envy of less happier lands, This blessed plot, this earth, this realm this England....

And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountains green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen? And did the countenance divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here Among those dark satanic mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold! Bring me my arrows of desire! Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire! I will not cease from mental fight, Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand. Till we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant land.
Still think we should make this the official English national anthem

Love Blake, love the fact he (out of necessity) obscured his social idealism and political statements in "protestant mystical allegory" and love the fact he's still confusing people with it to this very day.
